    Stryker VP & CFO International Group

    The International Group comprised of five divisions: Asia-Pacific, Europe, Japan, Americas and EEMEA with Total Revenue of $ 2.7Bn and more than 5500 employees. The CFO leadership role focused on driving growth, profitability and cash flow performance as well as the strategic direction of the Finance and Business Development functions.

    Key Focus Areas and Achievements

    • Drove aggressive growth for Emerging Markets and maintained solid growth for Developed Markets despite a difficult economic environment
    • Achieved strong profit and cash flow generation and ratio improvements (Income to Sales up 400 bps) across all divisions through solid resource allocation and strategic financial planning processes
    • Initiated and led the Transformation Program for the Finance function which led to captive and outsourced service centers for Europe and Asia-Pacific
    • Set up the Business Development function for the Group which evaluated many acquisition opportunities and which led to a significant acquisition in China.
    • Oversaw the successful implementation of compliance programs, integration of acquisitions, ERP conversions and supply chain change programs across the Group
    • Guided many commercial business model changes to successfully adapt to the changing global environment, particularly in Japan and Europe
  • 2000 - 2008

    Stryker VP & CFO Europe, Middle East & Africa

    The EMEA division managed the Sales, Marketing and Distribution activities of all Stryker products for the region with total revenues of $ 1.0 Bn and 1500 employees. The CFO role lead the divisional focus on growth, profitability and cash flow performance and provided leadership for the strategic direction of the Finance, Tax, Operations and IT functions.

    Key Focus Areas and Achievements

    • Drove expansion and strategic resource allocation which resulted in sales growth from $ 0.4 Bn in 2001 to $ 1 Bn in 2007
    • Improved profitability and achieved outstanding cash flow performances year on year
    • Lead the turnaround of the financial and tax aspects of the integration of an acquisition resulting in first class cash generation and strongly supporting the corporate ETR
    • Initiated and led successful transformation programs for IT (ERP Consolidation) and Logistics (Logistic consolidation to a central distribution center in the Netherlands)
    • Led a cross functional program for the Eastern European and Middle East regions to support aggressive growth and to ensure compliance with local and international laws as well as company policies
  • 1996 – 2000

    Stryker General Manager Southern Africa

    A new organization was established in 1996 to directly sell, market and distribute the Stryker products & services in the Southern African countries. Currently 90 FTE are locally employed.

    Key Focus Areas and Achievements

    Established a full-fledged country organization in South Africa, built a local sales & marketing organization and successfully introduced the Reconstructive, Trauma and Medical product lines.

    • Negotiated and integrated the acquisition of the South African distributor organization
    • Set up and led a local sales and marketing force and introduced and expanded all key product lines
    • Became a strategic and award winning supply partner for the leading South African hospital groups and trusted partner for the SA Orthopaedic Surgeon, Academic and Operating Theatre communities
    • Achieved market leadership for the Instruments, Endoscopy and Medical product lines and successfully integrated & expanded the local organization & business after the global acquisition from Pfizer Inc.
    • Established full business infrastructure: offices, IT & logistic systems and processes across the country
  • 1988 – 1996

    Stryker Manager Finance & Operations Northern & Southern Europe

    The main European operating unit responsible for selling and distributing Stryker products in Northern & Southern Europe and manufacturing reconstructive products.

    Manager Finance & Operations, June 1991 – July 1996

    Finance and Operations Leader responsible for financial management & reporting as well as customer service and supply chain for two business units: Northern Europe (Benelux, Nordic and South Africa) and Southern Europe (Italy & Greece)

    • Drove and supported significant sales & profit growth in excess of 20% year on year
    • Reorganized Customer Service & Operations departments to establish customer oriented teams with first class customer service levels and working capital performance
    • Led ERP implementation and Facility projects to support aggressive growth & decentralization on time and within budget for Northern & Southern European HQ and local sites
    • Led Strategic Programs that resulted in successful country expansion and business model changes

    Financial Controller, October 1988 – May 1991

    • Member of management team with overall responsibility for the finance function; accounting, reporting, consolidation, forecasting and budgeting for the European sales, marketing & distribution entity and the Osteonics manufacturing facility

    Established a solid financial reporting & accounting function to support the aggressive growth of the Group.

  • 1986 – 1988

    PPG Hellige Manager Finance & Administration

    Originally the Patient Monitoring business of Philips NV, Medical Systems, it was acquired from Honeywell by PPG Industries to form a new Biomedical division. The organization of 400 FTE developed, manufactured and globally sold Patient Monitoring Systems and Heart Catheters.
